Breakfast
with giraffes

Giraffe Manor is often referred to as “Giraffe Manor”. The main building of the hotel is a colonial manor house with ivy on the walls, reminiscent of good old England. The interiors are also very atmospheric. The furniture is in colonial style: a bed with an antimosquito canopy, a chest of drawers, a mirror, a sofa, a closet and a fireplace. In the bed, guests are given a heating pad with a picture of a giraffe. On the pillow – a card with a lullaby about giraffes. The most spectacular action unfolds in the morning at breakfast, when guests come downstairs and sit at their tables, where a delicious hot breakfast is already set. The dining room windows swing open and the velvet-haired residents poke their long necks in to eat with you.

Giraffe Manor has just two buildings and 12 rooms. The main building was not so long ago a private colonial mansion where the family lived. The new owners have added a new building, but have not lost but improved the atmosphere and the high level of service offered to guests. The rooms are all different from each other – for example the room named Jock will be the first room where the giraffes come in the morning, but here you can feed the giraffes only from the second floor window, but Betty’s room has a balcony. Family rooms are also available. Marlon is suitable for a family with one child, while Karen Blixen’s suite can accommodate two or more children as it has two bedrooms and a living room.

This is the morning you’ve never had before! You will be woken up by giraffes that look in the windows and wake up the guests. They leave food for the animals in the rooms so that you can feed the unusual visitor with velvet horns and huge eyes – believe me, seeing them so close you will think that they are from another planet.

Breakfast with giraffes is the main feature of the hotel. You will immediately forget about breakfast, but do not worry – if necessary, it will be repeated. This is something not many people have access to, so enjoy the view, take photos, make videos and feed the giraffes – it’s a delight and memories to last a lifetime.

Not surprisingly, the giraffe-fed hotel is incredibly popular. Rooms here cost from $1,750 a night. But this does not stop many people – even those who then go on a less fashionable route. Therefore, rooms need to be booked in advance. Way in advance! About a year before the trip. If you can not book a room in the main building of the hotel, you can stay in a room in the new building, which is not inferior in atmospherics to the main building. But there are nuances: rooms in the new building are sold with a condition: you can book them only if you also take a night, or more, in one of the three other hotels of the same owners.

How much does a night in a hotel with giraffes cost?

$1,750 a night, for two people, in a standard room.

When is the best time to go?

There is no bad season for safaris in Kenya, so people come here all year round. Despite this, the high level of service of the mansion forces the owners to improve and renovate the interior every year, as well as to give the inn’s many indispensable employees a rest and recuperation. To this end, each year around April, the mansion closes completely, or closes one of its two buildings.

If you combine a visit to the Giraffe Mansion with a safari, it is advisable to go from July to October. Preferably in early September to catch the peak of the season.

Can you do it cheaper?

No.

How do you choose the best room?

If you don’t book a year and a half in advance, the choice will often make itself.

The rooms in the mansion are quite different – different sizes, with different restrooms and baths, with and without balconies. Of the twelve rooms in the Giraffe Mansion, only two are suites – Karen Blixen and Finch Haughton. Giraffes approach almost all of the rooms in the morning, but only two of them are facial – Betty and Jock.

Can I come for breakfast or lunch, no overnight stay?

No.

Booking conditions

Giraffe Manor has two buildings – Main and New. It is desirable to look for a free room in the Main building – reservation there is without additional conditions. If you can’t book a room in the main building, you can stay in a room of the new building, which is not inferior in atmosphere to the main building and giraffes come there too. But, rooms in the new building can only be booked if you also take a night, or more, in one of the three other hotels that belong to the owners of the mansion – Salas in Masai Mara, Sasab in Samburu, or Solio in Laikipia. These are all very beautiful and exclusive hotels that are definitely worth visiting.

Exception! If you book 30 days before arrival, you can take a room in the second building without load. If, of course, there are places there.

Booking conditions:

30% prepayment.
Full payment 45 days before arrival.

If canceling 120 days prior to check-in, full refund*
If canceling 45-120 days prior to travel, deposit is non-refundable.

Breakfast with giraffes

Giraffe Manor is world famous, it was once a simple small family estate of British colonizers, in the then new capital of Kenya. Now it is one of the most famous hotels in the world, where rooms must be booked many months in advance to avoid missing the chance to have breakfast with the velvet giants – the curious Rothschild giraffes that poke their heads through the spacious windows of the mansion and eat with the guests.
