Diani Beach
is like a picture postcard

Diani Beach is a place of breathtaking beauty. If your dreamscape includes the quintessential beach – a wide swathe of powdery, snow-white sand meeting an azure ocean – then you’re picturing Kenya’s premier resort, and the best in East Africa: Diani Beach. Experts agree that Diani isn’t just a Kenyan gem; it’s a global one. It’s a place where the beauty is a daily delight, offering stunning vistas, a balmy climate, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The Diani Beach resort area stretches for a full 17 kilometers along the Indian Ocean coastline, south of Mombasa, and encompasses several distinct beaches: Tiwi, Diani proper, Galu, Kinondo, and Chale Island. While Diani Beach does experience tides, they are noticeable thanks to the sandy seabed, which at low tide extends the beach’s already generous width. In areas where the tide’s retreat is more apparent, the water reveals rocks and reefs, creating natural, shallow pools with pristine, sandy bottoms. These exposed stretches of the ocean floor offer a fantastic opportunity for a unique “sea safari,” where you can wander a hundred meters from the shoreline and observe the fascinating life of small marine creatures – entire colonies of crabs, predatory mollusks, vibrant and feathery sea worms, and a kaleidoscope of starfish.

A short distance offshore lie vibrant coral reefs, a haven for incredible diving and snorkeling. Here, you can immerse yourself in Kenya’s stunning underwater world, swimming alongside reef sharks, turtles, dolphins, rays, and moray eels, while marveling at the dazzling array of colorful corals and the ghostly remains of sunken ships. If you’ve never tried diving before, experienced instructors are available to teach you everything you need to know and show you the ropes.

The coastal lagoon, sheltered from the ocean waves by the coral reef, combined with strong, consistent winds from December to March and June to September, creates ideal conditions for kite surfing and windsurfing. You’ll find plenty of reputable instructors and all the gear right on the beach.

For fishing enthusiasts, an exhilarating deep-sea adventure awaits in the Pemba Channel aboard a vessel captained by a world-class professional. The Pemba Channel, at the southernmost tip, about 80 kilometers from Mombasa in the Shimoni area, is renowned as a premier big-game fishing destination, guaranteeing an unforgettable experience. Anglers have registered record-breaking catches of blue, black, and striped marlin along the Kenyan coast here. The waters also teem with sailfish, swordfish, tuna, dorado (mahi-mahi), tiger sharks, mako sharks, and other impressive species. We tag and release marlin and sailfish, while we can take prized table fish like dorado or barracuda back to your hotel, where the chef will prepare them for your dinner.

Every restaurant along Diani Beach boasts an extensive selection of fresh seafood dishes. So, if you appreciate crabs, mussels, calamari, prawns, and expertly prepared fish, the local chefs have a real treat in store for you! One of the most unique dining experiences is Ali Barbour’s Cave Restaurant, nestled within an ancient, naturally formed grotto. Inside, tables adorned with white tablecloths are set within a traditional African-style décor. In the evening, lanterns cast a magical glow throughout the cave. And the restaurant has no roof – diners gaze up through a natural opening in the cave ceiling at the vast, star-studded African sky above.

Diani Beach is a year-round destination, thanks to its proximity to the equator, which keeps the average temperature a pleasant 27°C (around 80°F). The low season runs from April to the beginning of July, which is considered the rainy season. However, “rainy season” doesn’t mean constant downpours. Instead, you might experience a shower once a day. The sky might suddenly cloud over, but it will likely clear up just as quickly.

Blue skies, a perpetually warm ocean, and dazzling white sand – it’s the perfect backdrop for an idyllic vacation, stunning photoshoots, and even unforgettable weddings.
