Gorillas
- Nature’s giants
- An endangered species
- A face-to-face encounter
Why make
time to see gorillas?
Encountering gorillas is an awe-inspiring experience. Coming face-to-face with the largest of the great apes is extraordinary. But with these primates on the brink of extinction, now’s the time to act—this opportunity might not last.
In Rwanda, a small army of rangers monitored each gorilla family whose primary mission is to protect the primates from poachers.
In Congo, you can combine gorilla trekking with a hike or helicopter flight to the bubbling caldera of Mount Nyiragongo. The challenging terrain and premium price tag guarantee an exclusive safari and a treasure trove of unforgettable memories.

For safety reasons, do not approach gorillas closer than a few meters. However, there’s no stopping a curious adolescent or infant primate from coming closer for a more intimate introduction. Gorilla trekking permits cost $1,500 per person, and you should book them well in advance. They’re popular for New Year’s or during the Great Migration in Kenya, as they make an excellent addition to a safari. Before your trip, be sure to watch “Gorillas in the Mist”—it portrays the struggles faced by conservationists in the not-so-distant past, before gorillas became a cherished national treasure. The film is a perfect primer for your primate encounter.

A gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda or Congo makes for an excellent addition to a safari in neighboring Kenya or Tanzania.

Each point of the route has already been tried by us personally, it remains to make an individual program for you personally.
