Premium
trekking experiences

The Lemosho route to Kilimanjaro offers a significantly unique experience compared to other trails. First off, the Lemosho trailhead is on the western slopes, far removed from the usual tourist hotspots.Lemosho boasts some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Shira Plateau. On top of that, this route provides one of the best acclimatization programs in Kilimanjaro. These factors combine to make Lemosho treks a premium option. Treks are available in six, seven, and eight-day itineraries. We recommend the longer options for optimal altitude change and overall comfort.

Kilimanjaro offers a range of ascent options. Regardless of your chosen route, we are committed to providing unwavering support throughout your journey, ensuring your successful reach of the peak.

You’re just a step away.

Day 1 – Arrival

  • Pickup at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO)
  • Transfer to hotel
  • Rest and optional excursions
  • Evening briefing
  • Gear check

The hotel provides all the essentials for a comfortable stay: cozy rooms, hot water, friendly staff, a swimming pool, and internet access.

Day 2 – Shira 2 Camp

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Transfer to Londorossi Gate (2200m)
  • High-altitude drop-off at 3500m
  • Hike to Shira Camp (3900m)
  • Dinner and rest

This will be your first day at altitude, so it’s strongly recommended to avoid caffeine and alcohol, drink 4 liters or more of bottled water daily (sipping small amounts frequently is best), and take a Diamox tablet if you experience any signs of altitude sickness.

Day 3 – Lava Tower and Barranco

  • Breakfast
  • Ascend to Lava Tower (4630m)
  • Lunch at a camp at 4600m
  • 1-2 hour rest
  • Descend to Barranco Camp (3960m)
  • Dinner and overnight at the camp

If one or more participants feel unwell, the group may skip the Lava Tower crossing and take a shorter route along the porters’ trail. This avoids reaching 4630 meters, limiting the maximum altitude to 4400 meters.

Day 4 – Climb to Karanga

  • Early wake-up, breakfast
  • Ascend the Barranco Wall
  • Rest and photo session with Kibo volcano as a backdrop
  • Hike to Karanga Camp
  • Hot lunch and a couple of hours’ rest
  • Head towards Barafu Camp
  • Descend back to Karanga Camp
  • Dinner, overnight

Day 5 – Climb to Barafu

  • Breakfast
  • Hike up to Barafu Camp (4640)
  • Rest and recharge before the midnight summit push

From Barafu Camp, you’ll begin your nighttime summit push to Uhuru Peak (5895m). It’s best to spend the remaining time resting and getting a good night’s sleep before the summit attempt.

Day 6 – Uhuru and Millennium

  • Begin summit push to Uhuru Peak (5895m)
  • Return to Barafu Camp
  • 2-hour rest
  • Descend to Millennium Camp (3820m)
  • Dinner and overnight at the camp

The ascent is straightforward, but the altitude is a significant challenge! Throughout the climb, each pair of participants will have their own guide to monitor your physical and mental well-being. (If desired, after reaching Uhuru Peak, you can also descend to the nearest glacier.)

  • Descent to Mweka Gate (1640m)
  • Celebratory congratulations from the team
  • Presentation of commemorative certificates
